We are thrilled to have you visit our website and learn more about us! As we prepare to open the doors at Smiling Snake Vineyards later in 2026 (hopefully!), we want to share just a little about us and the ideas behind the plans for our cozy, boutique-style, yet family friendly winery.
Foremost for us, we want you to feel comfortable at our place, whether you are a long time wine connoisseur, or you are new to exploring wine. Our plans for the future include serving both dry and sweet wines, and to slowly expand our wine selection menu over time. (It's not good to rush wine!)
Speaking of menus, we will likely be serving pizzas and charcuterie when we open, and perhaps invite a food truck or two to join us for special events.
We believe that faith, sunlight, hard work, and tender loving care result in the blessing of great harvests of some of the best winemaking grapes in the world.
At Smiling Snake Vineyards, we are passionate about supporting Texas agriculture by offering only high-quality wines, made with Texas fruit.

Thank you for joining us on this journey! We look forward to meeting you.

"She considers a field and buys it; from her earnings she plants a vineyard.

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future."

The picture above shows a tiny snippet from spring 2024 at the site of our tasting room and winery.

We are located in northeast Texas in Van Zandt County, about halfway between Shreveport and Dallas, and our place is very easily accessed from Interstate 20. We planted four varieties in April 2024: Paseante Noir, Errante Noir, Caminante Blanc, and Ambulo Blanc. Never heard of them?

In mid-June 2026, we finally broke ground on the winery building! We will open our tasting room as soon as we can. We KNOW -- we can't wait, either! We don't yet have licensing to make or sell wine here, and since we truly don't wish to go to jail, we will all just have to wait. (We don't have to wait patiently, but we do have to wait.)
We are proud to say that, in 2025, we harvested 1.5 tons of grapes from our one year old vines. This fruit was sold to friends of ours for their lovely nearby winery, and we know they will soon be serving up some delicious wine there from it.
For our upcoming 2026 harvest, we anticipate having almost the same amount of fruit as in 2025, rather than getting more from our two year old vines. Due to the late spring freeze of St. Patrick's Day, our primary buds and shoots were very much affected, and our harvest will suffer for it.
Sadly, we have numerous damaged (and many dying!) vines that will have to be retrained or replaced.
